Matinee Peplum Top, Discount, and Giveaway

I'm so happy to be a part of Jenn's Matinee Dress and Peplum Top Pattern tour today!

Jenn and I met when we were both contributing to the Kids Clothes Week blog a few months ago, and this sweet lady is just full of great ideas, one of which is this adorable pattern.  Some patterns really shine in their subtlety and some shine in with fun details, and this one does both.  The low scooping back held together with a  tie is adorable.  And the tie wrapping around the front to break up the pattern on the bodice is subtle, but also adorable.  Win win. :)The pattern comes with a dress or peplum length option for the skirt, and with as much as we're at the park these days I opted for the peplum option.  (It's better to let some dark leggings take on the dirt from the slide and grass than the skirt of her dress, right?  Yes, I think so too.)

Again, I love that this design makes a bold statement from the front or back.  Or the side. :) The pattern calls for a woven fabric, but since this is a pattern tour and we're supposed to mix things up a little, I mixed it up (just a little) and made it in a knit. I had this wonderful, slightly distressed-looking, gray stripe fabric in a knit/spandex that was modern and fun, and decided on a radiant orchid sash just to keep her on trend with the Pantone Color of the year.  (That's a joke.  Does anyone keep their child dressed on trend?  I can't say that I do, and most days I'm lucky if she remains dressed in any form.  I digress.)  That said, I did have a bit of this fabric left from her September Tunic and it was such a great pop of color that I went with it.  I sized down a size in the bodice since the fabric would be able to stretch with her, and omitted the button hole closure on the lower bodice.  

I also lengthened and widened the sash, and changed the ends into a bunny ear sort of shape that looked sweet when knotted up on her back.  

After a full morning at the park, I have to say that I made the right choice about deciding to go for the peplum.  There was lots of climbing up and then sliding down hills and I was happy that her new top was no worse for the wear.

As to the pattern itself, Jenn has nearly outdone herself in giving attention to every detail.  She explains the various options for different looks with the pattern, but also gives the option to print only the size that you need, and even gives the various fabric measurements in both the imperial and metric dimensions.  Like I said, attention to detail.  Her instructions ensure that you will assemble a beautiful garment, and you do. :)

As soon as Hannah came out in this peplum top, Chelsea said, "Well, now you have to make her a dress like that too!"  

Even though I had just finished Matinee #1, I think I agree about Matinee #2.  It is a must.
