Pretty in Peplum Dress & Girl Charlee Giveaway

When Abby from Sew Much Ado asked if I'd like to be a part of the pattern tour for her newest pattern the Pretty in Peplum Dress & Top I couldn't say yes quick enough because I had wanted this pattern for months.  When I was scrolling through my Pinterest boards recently I realized I had pinned this dress months ago not even realizing that it was a pattern in the works.  Funny, right?

Anyway, onto the pattern.

I know that I always say how Hannah loves the new clothes that I make for her.  She is a girly little thing and likes to get dressed up.  But as soon as this was on her she started jumping up and and down saying, "Mommy!!  It's a big grown up girl skirt dress!  I love my new grown up girl skirt on my dress!  It's a big grown up girl streeeetchy skirt dress!!"

I guess it's the first non-twirly skirt she's ever had.  The stretchy "big grown up girl skirt" was really exciting for her.  It was perfect for singing The Grand Old Duke of York and marching in, which is exactly what she did.

The genius thing about this pattern that you might not know just from looking at it, is that it is not a floral peplum shirt layered over a gray skirt, it is an all-in-one dress.   

Such a fun dress, you just want to spin in it.  I used a gorgeous floral ponte from Girl Charlee Fabrics which is is currently out of stock, but here is a similar navy with floral print, or you could browse their incredible selection of ponte de roma knits here.

I did make one small modification, did you see it?  It's just that, the print on this fabric is just begging for a beautiful golden yellow button, right?  So I had to make that happen.

I cut out a small keyhole in the back, and added a button and small elastic closure.  It was en easy addition because the dress is already interfaced, but one of those fun little details that adds just a bit of extra interest.

Hannah loves this dress because the peplum skirt at the bottom flares out to give her a little bit of that spininess that is so important to all little girls.  I love it because she gets the spin factor but still has the warmth of long sleeves, and it took me less than 2 hours to sew.

That's right folks.  I had the pieces all cut out beforehand, but even withthe keyhole it took just about 2 hours.  A wonderful nap time project.  Ahhh, I love it.
