Furry Plum Wool Coat

I know I say it a lot, and it is a bit inevitable since I keep making new things and building on my skill set, BUT this new coat is my favorite thing ever.

Hannah likes it too.

I started off with what has become my standard for new coats these last few months, the Five and Ten Designs Volume Two Coats edition.  I used a little bit of everything in there.  It's a basic block but more of a swingy, A-line shape.  I used the instructions for installing a zip with lining and a zip guard, and for fur around the hood of the coat.

I had planned to do scallops down the front, but after many failed attempts I just gave up on it.  I could't get a crisp shape because of the bulkiness of this fabric, plus a size 3 coat doesn't really give you a lot of room for vertical scallops.  Oh well another day.  (Ps-This is not our dog, he was just photo bombing our duck feeding session.  Or he was just chasing the birds we were rounding up.  Or some combination of the two.)

I added a little extra detail by adding two lines of topstitching to every seam and it gave it such a nice touch.  

Having a coat like this might give you a little bit of a Snow White effect.  We had birds flying, ducks eating out of our hands, dogs hanging around…you know, the usual.

The fabric and fur trim are all from the Goldhawke Road fabric district in West London.  

I finished just at the start of Kids Clothes Week, and now that I finished this coat that I've been gradually plugging away at here and there, I can get started on replenishing that wardrobe Hannah's "getting too small dresses."
